Overview

Philip has a broad commercial practice, which includes contract and resources disputes, general corporate law (including takeovers) and corporate insolvency, banking, professional liability and disciplinary matters, intellectual property, real property (including mortgage fraud), construction and trusts disputes. He enjoys a substantial banking and finance practice acting for major banks and financial institutions in a range of matters.

Philip appears both led and alone and has experience leading junior counsel. He appeared on behalf of a national insurer in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry (Hayne Inquiry) and recently appeared, pro bono, in a successful criminal appeal against conviction.

Before coming to the Bar in 2009, Philip’s experience included significant periods as a litigation solicitor in leading commercial firms in Brisbane, the Channel Islands and London, having been admitted in 1997. Philip also worked as in-house counsel with one of the UK’s largest banks and as Associate to a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Philip holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland.
